SIMA has recently closed a USD 150 million Debt fund focused on C&I solar developers in Africa and is looking to strengthen its investment team.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct primary and secondary market research related to small-scale renewable energy (C&I) solar developers in Africa.
  • Sourcing and originating new deals for the pipeline, developing relationships with target companies.
  • Developing and vetting potential opportunities
  • Understand the fundamentals of the target companies, their business models, markets, and macroeconomic environment.
  • Writing investment memos and presenting findings to the Investment Committee.
  • Supporting the firm in all deal-related tasks, including on-site due diligence in emerging markets, financial and credit analysis, and deal structuring.
  • Maintain a well-controlled operating environment.

Requirements

  • Management degree; possession of or completion of the exam series in relevant certifications such as ACA, ACCA, CFA, or FRM is preferred.
  • Strong quantitative skills, a high degree of proficiency with Excel, and applied financial modeling experience.
  • Candidates within South Africa.
  • Track record of producing results and managing multiple projects and assignments concurrently.
  • Exposure to the renewable energy sector.
  • At least 2-8 years experience in deal sourcing, deal appraisal, and structuring, in corporate banking, emerging market investing, and impact investing in the renewable energy sector.
  • Project finance background and prior experience in lending or raising money for solar energy projects in Africa at either a commercial lending institute or a developer.
  • Track record of producing results and managing multiple projects and assignments concurrently.
  • A high level of passion, entrepreneurial energy, personal initiative, and responsibility.
  • Strong cultural understanding and skills to communicate effectively across multiple geographies.
  • Strong negotiating and team-working skills.
  • Socially orientated and desire to create a positive impact on society.
